Description

I have some more shots from Chicago which I may show in the future, but I have moved back to Kentucky for the summer and have set a goal to take at least one worthwhile image every day. As one of my first, I thought I would redo my original:

Ballad of the Driftwood by  danheacock

Only catch is this time I did a panorama and an HDR version. This is the first time I have attempted HDR and I am very pleased with the result.

Please take a look at both the Larger Version because it does the photo justice with the detail.

Taken with the Nikon d50, circ polarizer, and cokin grad. gray filter, post processing using photomatix.

Thanks for all the feedback and critiques on my first HDR attempt, enjoy!

The HDR works nicely for this shot. The foreground adds an interesting element.

Beautiful shot; I love the coolness of the wood in the foreground in contrast to the warm light of the sky.

I'm a sucker for a sundown or sunset, but this is really cool. The contrast between the foreground and the sky is a painters dream +top marks

Great first HDR try!
The horizon looks slightly tilted towards the left imo.

A gorgeous landscape. My only crit .. the rocks seem to have too much of a blue hue.

Very very nice! The warm colors in the sky and the cold on bottom, makes an antithesis that makes the composition interesting.

Great job with HDR, especially for your first attempt! The colors are great! Hopefully you see why I love this type of photography so much! It's really a niche I want to be great at! Keep up the great work Dan. Oh yeah, your horizon is a little crooked! :p Easy fix man!

I love the picture. I don't know what a HRD is and what the significant about using it but whatever it is I like the result. For some reason I get the sense of a chilly morning, reminds me of home. Anyway I love the colors you captured of the setting (?) sun. Really great!

Oh man!! Talk about the great use of contrast and complimentary colors!! Lighter detailed muted blue stones and dark green vegetation in the foreground, against a black horizon line with rich oranges and dark reds in the sky in the background . Many levels of depth. Very nicely done! Top score!
